I grew up in a working class family. My dad drove a city bus for MetroTransit and my mom taught dance. The arts were our lives. My sisters and I danced, sang, and acted in every community theatre production in town (that's barely hyperbole).
I learned so many of the skills that I use today from the arts–how to get out of my comfort zone, how to learn new things, how to practice until you can't get it wrong, how to not worry about what other people think.
Performing also led me to other passions–photography and world travel–and helped me to overcome my fears so I could learn and grow.
These days, my own family is everything to me. We are a blended family, with four girls–Lyla (9), Emma (8), Marlo (7), and Norah (5). We also have four pets! A dog–Billy, two cats–Bananas & Zipper, and a bearded dragon–Zoey.
We strive to create an environment where our kids can explore and grow global perspectives.
We are an outdoor family–we love biking, camping, canoeing, hiking, swimming, and more. Lyla, Marlo, and Norah go to Garlough Elementary here in West St. Paul, and they LOVE the environmental learning focus. They have learned so much about caring for animals and protecting our planet. Garlough is a fun, supportive, and kind school.
We are also a family that values experience and immersive learning. Between us, we have traveled or lived in more than 30 countries. Helping our kids develop inter-cultural competency and global perspective is a priority for our family.
Emma goes to Jie Ming Academy in St. Paul, and she is fluent in Mandarin. The other girls are close behind from at-home study. (We would love to have a language immersion option here in West St. Paul!)
We love West St. Paul and this is our forever home. We spend a ton of time at local parks–especially Emerson, Harmon, and Thompson County. We love our local restaurants and the farmer's market. And we can get almost anything we need from local businesses! We feel so lucky to be in this community and to play a role in moving West St. Paul forward.
